Saxby Road will remain closed for approximately seven days, following two bursts to a water main which have caused considerable damage to the road surface. The cause of the burst is being investigated and the repair is expected to be completed overnight, with the reinstatement contractor on site first thing in the morning.
Severn Trent Water will issue an update on Friday morning on the reopening of Saxby Road.
In an unconnected incident, nearby Thorpe Road is now under an emergency closure for the safety of road users, following a collapsed sewer which has led to a void forming on the carriageway. This has been closed since early this morning (Thursday).

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We would like to offer our sincere apologies to the residents of Melton Mowbray for the significant disruption that has been caused by these ongoing incidents. Their proximity to one another and that Thorpe Road was being used as a diversion from Saxby Road, has added another layer of complexity to this issue.
“We have been updating local businesses and residents through letter drops throughout these works and our teams are working hard to make the repairs and reinstatements to these roads as quickly as possible. We would like to apologise once again for the disruption and inconvenience while we make these essential repairs.”
