School pupil taken to hospital after school run collision

A pupil from John Ferneley College was taken to hospital this morning after being hit by a car.

Emergency services were sent to the incident in Scalford Road, Melton, just after 8:30am following reports a person had been struck by a vehicle.

Mrs Strickland, Assistant Head at John Ferneley College has written to parents to update them on the incident.

In an email sent this afternoon she said: "There was an accident this morning on Scalford Road, involving one of our students.

We have heard from the family concerned and are please [sic] to report that they have recovered well in hospital and are on their way home - we are sending all our well-wishes to them."

Mrs Strickland added: "The family of the child and the school would like to thank members of the local community and those from John Ferneley College, including staff and students, who responded without hesitation and with compassion. Our Inclusion and Wellbeing Room has been supporting all those affected by the incident today."

It's the second incident in three months where schoolchildren have been hit on their way to school on the same road.

We reported back in November that two schoolgirls were hit on their way to Brownlow.
