Railway volunteers appeal for special plate to be returned

Members of Stapleford Minature Railway, near Melton, are appealing for a special plate to be returned.

The blue metal plate was presented by ABC television in 1965 to commemorate the iconic scene of the Avengers which was filmed on the miniature guage railway.

The blue plate which is missing and much cherished by volunteers.

It is believed the plate was taken during the 1940s event in early July. It is a one off unique plate that cannot be replaced.

Friends of Stapleford Railway Media Officer Nigel Spencer told NEMM: "We had it out for the 1940s weekend in early July and couldn’t find it when we went round afterwards to collect up.

"It was in an area not accessible by the general public but we had been hoping someone had picked it up and put it safe but we have quizzed all members and searched everywhere and even around the wider site in case someone had chucked it in a bush but no trace. It is obviously much cherished and so unique it is worthless as it could never be displayed we would just like it returned."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the railway by emailing Info@fsmr.co.uk all information will be treated with the strictest confidence.
