Police reassure public ahead of Sunday's Euro final

Police have issued a notice to residents reassuring them that there will be regular patrols around Melton and the Town's parks ahead of Sunday's England match.

England are due to play Spain in the final of Euro 2024 on Sunday evening with a kick-off time of 8pm with many local venues planning to show the match.

In an email update to subscribers of Neighbourhood Link, Police have said that regular patrols will be taking place within Melton and the Town park where the match is due to be shown on a big screen.

They say that patrols will be done during the build up and throughout the game itsself.

Melton Mowbray Town Estate who has organised for the matches to be shown on big screens in the Play Close added that they take the safety and security of the public very seriously.

In a post on their Facebook page they said: "Melton Mowbray Town Estate takes the safety and security of the public, and visitors to our parks, very seriously. We are tremendously grateful to the officers of @Melton Police and our security staff from @Crowdsafe UK for ensuring that our hugely popular, family-friendly, European Championship match screenings in Play Close Park have been, and remain, a safe and secure environment for everyone.

We will have a zero-tolerance policy for disorder and thoughtless behaviour, and we will take active measures to eject individuals or groups intent on spoiling the fun for everyone else. Under-age drinking will result in confiscation of alcohol by our security team and any under-age drinkers will be asked to leave.

We understand the excitement around England's progression to the final, and we want everyone to be able to enjoy the experience without worrying about anti-social behaviour or disorder. Please enjoy the screening of the final in Play Close Park on Sunday, and make it a day to remember for all the right reasons."

England made it through the final after a late strike from sub Ollie Watkins sealed victory over the Netherlands on Wednesday night.
