Police issue update after dog is left abandoned in Melton

Updated: Aug 13

Police have issued an update after a dreadful incident on Saturday where a dog was left tied to a post.

Police were called to Dalby Road, Melton, just after 3.10pm on Saturday 10 August after a report that a dog – believed to be an American bulldog – had been abandoned tied to a post.

Leicestershire Police advised the public to stay away from the area while the incident was dealt with, in a post on their Facebook page.

Residents had taken to social media to offer the dog a home, with some praising the police and dog rescue's response.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "The dog had suffered significant injuries and was taken to a vet where sadly she was put down.

A 39-year-old man has today (Monday 12 August) been voluntarily interviewed regarding the incident and our enquiries remain ongoing."
