Person dies in railway incident near Asfordby

Trains through Melton station were suspended earlier this morning (Friday) as emergency services dealt with an incident on Station Lane, Asfordby.

Emergency services were called just after 8am this morning to the level crossing on Station Lane between Asfordby and Kirby Bellars following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Police attended and closed the road and services which pass through Melton station were stopped.

A British Transport Police Spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Asfordby in Leicestershire just after 8am this morning (25 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene."

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
