Residents were confused this morning (Wednesday) when stacks of bread were being discovered around the town.

One posted on Facebook: "Not sure what’s happened but there are literally hundreds of baskets of bread that have been left all around the town centre area."
Another said: “This is actually quite serious, wish people would stop loafing about it!”

Stacks of bread could be seen from Burton Lazars through to Burton Street in Melton following a lorry shedding its load.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: "Shortly after 2:45am today a repot was received that pallets of bread had fallen from a lorry in Melton Road, Burton Lazars. Officers attended and removed the obstruction from the road."

It is estimated to be at yeast 9,000 loaves of bread Involved in the incident.
