Murder investigation teams remain in Colston Bassett over a week since tragic murder

Police investigating the murder of Clair Ablewhite in Colston Bassett remain at the scene over a week since her body was discovered.

Mother-of-three Clair Ablewhite was found dead after officers were called to the property in Hall Lane, shortly before 6.30pm on last Saturday (26th February).

A Home Office post-mortem examination was carried out and confirmed the 47-year-old suffered stab wounds. Officers arrested a 48-year-old man last Sunday morning on suspicion of murder in connection with the investigation, he was released under investigation.

Earlier this week police issued two CCTV clips of a man they want to identify in relation to the incident.

The man is seen on camera on foot in Hall Lane, Colston Bassett, at around 9.30pm on Friday, shortly before the murder took place.

He was wearing a hooded jacket with the hood up, trainers, and a rucksack on his back. He has a light-footed walk and has his right hand to his mouth in the clip.

Detectives are urging people to look closely at the video as they are confident someone can tell them who he is so he can be eliminated from their enquiries.

Officers also revealed there were no signs of a break-in before mother-of-three Clair Ablewhite, 47, was murdered.

On Friday Nottinghamshire Police released more CCTV footage of a man on a bicycle they wanted to trace. Officers believe it is the same man in both pieces of footage.

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin of Nottinghamshire Police said: ""This latest piece of footage leads us to believe that the person we are trying to trace - who was seen outside Clair's house at a really significant time - travelled close to the scene on a bicycle before leaving it somewhere nearby and continuing on foot as he approached the house."

"We have also released a map of the area showing where the man was seen. Please look at this and try to recall whether you were in the area at the time and whether you saw anything that could help us.

"It may be that this triggers someone's memory of seeing someone on a bike that night and if it does I would ask that you come forward immediately to tell us what you saw. Perhaps you have dash-cam footage of a cyclist in and around Colston Bassett on Friday night that may also be the man we want to trace and whose movements we want to pinpoint."

ACC Griffin also urged people to come forward with any other information that could help the enquiry.
