Member of public hit by falling debris as Storm Éowyn passes through Melton Borough

A member of the public has been injured after some debris fell off a roof in Melton Town Centre earlier today.


Strong wind gusts have hit the area with a maximum of 55pmh being recorded at East Midlands Airport.


Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service were called to Market Place in Melton just after 11am this morning (Friday) after reports that some debris had fell from a roof hitting a member of the public.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said: "At 11.14 we received a call regarding falling tiles at Market Place in Melton Mowbray. Our crew from Melton Fire Station is currently in attendance.

A member of the public was injured by the tiles, and our colleagues from EMAS are also attending the scene. A local business, Miss B’s Tea Rooms, has been closed temporarily following the incident, which remains ongoing."


The member of public made their own way to hospital and their coniditon is not known.
