Melton's Recyling and Household Waste site is to close for up to four weeks while essential works are to be carried out.
The site in Lake Terrace will be closed for up to four weeks from 13th January 2025 to allow for essential works to be carried out.
The staff building at the site, which contains an office, kitchen facilities and toilets, needs to be demolished and replaced on health and safety grounds, as it is no longer up to the required standard.
The layout of the waste site means that the works cannot take place while the facility is open to the public, so it needs to close to ensure the safety of site users and building contractors.
Waste permits which are valid for Melton Mowbray RHWS will be accepted at any other open RHWS in the county during the period of closure.

Councillor Blake Pain, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for environment and the green agenda, said: “We appreciate that this will cause some inconvenience to people who use the Recycling and Household Waste site at Melton Mowbray and apologise for the disruption, but the works are essential to replace a building which is no longer fit for purpose.
“We have chosen to carry out these improvement works in January as it is a quieter period for the waste sites, outside of the busy spring and summer season.
“Alternative waste sites and their opening times are available on our website - www.leicestershire.gov.uk/waste - and I would encourage everyone planning to travel to one of our sites to check before they set out.”
Residents planning to visit a recycling and household waste site over Christmas and New Year are also being urged to check opening hours before heading out.
The 13 waste sites, operated by Leicestershire County Council, will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, in addition to their normal closure days.
The days following Boxing Day and into the New Year can be extremely busy at all sites, and potential site visitors are urged to bear this in mind before setting out.
Councillor Blake Pain, added: “We’re approaching the busiest time of the year at our waste sites. While we are doing everything we possibly can to make sure that opening hours aren’t affected outside the usual seasonal closures, we’d encourage visitors to check our website and social media for updates and be patient if they do visit a site.”
