Melton Police Station in King Street was temporarily closed this afternoon (Wednesday) after a member of the public took in a suspicious item.
The building, which is home to mutiple different departments, was closed and the entrance to the car park was taped off by a police cordon.

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: "Earlier today (29 November) a member of the public found a suspicious item and took the item to Melton police station.
On initial examination, the item was suspected to possibly be a grenade.
The item was left in a safe place in the station's car park and after further examination."
Leicestershire Police have since confirmed it was not a grenade.
