A local group who attend medical emergencies are to be awarded the highest award possible for local voluntary groups in the UK.
Melton Community First Responders has been announced as recipients of the King’s Award for Voluntary Service for their work in the community over the last 20 years.
The group are trained by East Midlands Ambulance Service and attend a wide variety of medical emergencies to provide reassurance and potentially life saving treatment before an ambulance arrives on the scene.
The announcement was officially made in the London Gazette on Thursday morning, The London Gazette is one of the official journals of record or government gazettes of the Government of the United Kingdom, and the most important among such official journals in the United Kingdom.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service runs in annual cycles, starting with nominations in September each year, local and national assessments between January and June, and the announcement of Awardees in November.
The group has 8 volunteers who attend a number of different incidents ranging from cardiac arrests to falls and breathing difficulties.
Each volunteer is equipped with defibrillators and medical supplies to help stabalise the condition of a patient before an ambulance arrives.
The group respond to around 100 patients a month from all around the Melton Borough.
The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire will present the award officially to the group in due course.
