Melton Borough Council has been working with stakeholders, partners, and the wider Melton Place Board to develop a clear vision for the town centre.
A consultation has opened to provide local residents with an opportunity to review the draft Melton Mowbray Town Centre Vision document and share their thoughts with the council.
The purpose of the Town Centre Vision is to shape the future of Melton, identifying what opportunities are available for growth and demonstrating how these could be delivered for the benefit of the residents, businesses and visitors to Melton Mowbray.
The draft vision, which is out for public consultation, identifies development sites, connectivity projects, public realm enhancement opportunities, proposed activities for events, tourism, promotion, skills development, and business support.
It establishes a direction for future developments in the town centre by setting out how increased investment could take place to capitalise on opportunities and enhance Melton’s reputation as Rural Capital of Food.

Cllr Rob Bindloss, Portfolio Holder for Growth and Prosperity said “The Town Centre Vision is an important document for all those who live in our borough. Through developing a plan and identifying opportunities we can improve the area and help boost the economy in the town and, in turn, the wider borough.
“Through delivering the projects highlighted in the vision, we can continue to establish Melton Mowbray as a destination of choice for food experience, enterprise and innovation. The proposed projects will reenergize the high street and further support Melton’s reputation as the ‘Rural Capital of Food’, creating a blueprint for how rural market towns can reinvent themselves to become the real community hubs."
Responses from the consultation will be used to adapt and refine the final vision of the Melton Mowbray Town Centre Vision.

Once agreed and adopted the Melton Mowbray Town Centre Vision will be used to inform future development in the town as well as future bids for funding to ensure the works and plans identified within the vision can be delivered. The adopted plan will be reviewed and updated annually.
