Future of hotel building uncertain as more information emerges on liquidation of Stapleford Park

More information has been released by the liquidators of Stapleford Park which has recently closed.

As we reported earlier this month, it was announced that Stapleford Park had ceased trading leaving the future of the building in doubt, confirming that Leonard Curtis were overseeing the process.

It has now been revealed that 92 staff members were made redundant during the process and they have been advised to contact the redundancy payments service.

In a statement issued on Thursday afternoon Leonard Curtis said: "Alex Cadwallader and Neil Bennett of Leonard Curtis were appointed as joint liquidators of Stapleford Park Limited on October 28, 2024. Stapleford Park Limited traded the luxury hotel in Leicestershire which features 48 guest rooms and 500 acres of parkland surrounding a Grade I listed mansion.

Despite efforts to reach profitability through multiple hotel management partnerships and significant investment from shareholders, the business was unable to generate the turnover required.

The company employed 92 staff members who were all made redundant considering the liquidation process. All former staff have been advised to contact the Redundancy Payments Service, which will process eligible claims following the commencement of liquidation.

The company did not own the property and the future of the hotel remains uncertain at this stage.

Commenting on the process, Alex Cadwallader said: “Our priority was to ensure the most orderly wind-down of trading possible. Significant efforts were made to communicate with and re-locate of the guests that were staying at the hotel, which was at approximately 50% occupancy.

“Leonard Curtis attended the site and worked closely with front of house staff to make this possible, and the wider group also met some essential costs to limit the impact on guests and future bookings. However we fully appreciate that some guests will have been adversely impacted.”

It is not currently known that will happen to the iconic 500-acre estate and Grade I listed mansion near Melton.

NEMM contacted The Churches Conservation Trust who operate St Mary Magdalene within the grounds to see what was happening with regards to the church.

So far we are yet to get clarity on the future of the church which once held the wedding of Peter Crouch to his Wife Abbey.

In a statement issued at the time Stapleford Estate who own some of the surrounding land said: "The owners of The Stapleford Estate were saddened to learn of the closure of Stapleford Park Hotel.

We would like to remind everyone that The Stapleford Estate and Stapleford Park Hotel are COMPLETE SEPARATE ENTITIES and therefore this development yesterday has no impact in any way on The Stapleford Estate which includes Stapleford Farms, Stapleford Freedom Field, Stapleford Doggy Day Care, Stapleford Estate Rides, Stapleford Shoot, Stapleford Events, Stapleford Miniture Railway.

We hope new owners of Stapleford Park Hotel can be found quickly and it reopens for business soon."

Many famous faces have stayed at the hotel in its time including Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and others.
