Former Melton Student heading for I'm A Celebrity Jungle

A former student at Brooksby Melton College (SMB College Group) is heading in to the Australian jungle to take part in the hit TV show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.

Owen Warner is a regular in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks and is joining the likes of pop icon Boy George and radio legend Chris Moyles for the new series which starts on ITV this weekend.

Returning to its home in Australia after a two-year break, the celebrities will leave their plush pads and luxuries far behind as they spend up to three weeks taking on the Australian jungle with a whole host of surprises created just for them.

The celebrities heading into the jungle to join Owen for the new series are; Pop Icon Boy George, Corrie Star Sue Cleaver, TV Presenter & Property Expert Scarlette Douglas, Ex England Rugby Player Mike Tindall MBE, TV Presenter & Journalist Charlene White, Radio Legend Chris Moyles, England Lioness Jill Scott MBE, Comedian Babatúndé Aléshé and TV Personality Olivia Attwood with former Health Secretary Matt Hancock also rumoured to be joining the crew.

Owen, who plays Romeo Nightingale in the Channel 4 soap says it wouldn’t feel like a true I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! experience if he didn’t take part in trials.

He said: “I still can’t believe I am actually going to be in Australia doing I’m a Celebrity, it's not sunk in yet and it feels surreal and now it is getting closer, I want to enjoy everything about it. I have told all my friends to vote for me because I will feel like I have wasted it if I don’t do the trials. The trials are part of the I’m A Celebrity experience. It’s great to be going to Australia, the OG format.”

Owen completed a two-year performing arts course at Brooksby Melton College (now SMB College Group) in Asfordby Road between 2015 and 2017. His studies there included taking on a wide variety of acting challenges, including Shakespeare, pantomime, physical theatre and acting for camera.

Describing himself as laid back, Owen says he doesn’t think he will get wound up by his fellow campmates. But if they do step out of line, he will tell them. He added: “Hopefully I won’t get wound up by everyone. If someone is out of order, then I will say something. But I don’t want it to cause any tension and hopefully they will stop. I don’t think I will cry either in the jungle but then again I cry at most films and sometimes even new food!"

The news comes as former SMB College student 'Shaka' recently took part in The Voice UK and Melton's Danica Taylor won the hearts of fans on ITV's Love Island earlier this year.

He adds: “My mum can’t wait for me to do the show and I am most excited about landing in Australia. I will be running on pure adrenaline but I will also be buzzing with excitement. I know it is not a holiday but I still can’t wait!”

I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! returns this Sunday 6th November at 9pm on ITV.
