Council clarify position on Melton eyesore

Melton Borough Council has confirmed they are talking to the owner of a Melton property after conerns were raised online about the lack of movement in its development.

The building, on the corner of Nottingham Road and Park Road in Melton, has been empty for a number of years and has fallen victim in the past to fire damage and was used as a cannabis factory in 2021.

Conerns were raised by some residents online this week after development of the property seems to have stalled leaving the building to go more and more in to disrepair, not a good sight on the corner of so many busy roads through the town.

The building was sold at auction in 2020 and some work inside was started following the sale of the building which used to be 10 seperate flats. The building has a longstanding history behind it and is a listed building.

A spokesperson for Melton Borough Council said “The council is in contact with the owner of the property and has served a notice which requires the owner to take certain actions to improve the condition of the site.

“We understand that this is an important issue to many of our residents and our officers work hard to ensure local development and redevelopment is carried out in line with the planning permission granted and that local buildings are protected. Our Conservation and Enforcement officers will continue to work with the owner and monitor the site, taking any further action that is needed to protect this historic property.”

Attempts were made to locate the owners of the property to clarify their plans, but at the time of publishing this story, NEMM was unable to get comment from the property's owners.
